THIS book is an attempt, not the first in recent years, to resuscitate the name of Bechamp and his microzmas theory, which was presumed to have been utterly demolished by the labours of Pasteur.

The work is replete with extravagant language on the virtues of Bechamp and a tirade on the defects, if not vices, of Pasteur as an investigator. The solid fact remains that most of his work has been discredited as inaccurate, and although he wrote an immense amount, he plunged deeper and deeper into error.

However high the opinion of the author is on the virtues of Bechamp, he has utilised a fair part of the book to exploit his own antimicrobic and antivaccination views. Founded upon MS, by Dr. Montague R.

Béchamp or Pasteur? a Lost Chapter in the History of Biology

While cell theory and germ theory gained widespread acceptance, granular theories became obscure. He lived in Bucharest , Romania from the ages of 7 to 18 with an uncle who worked in the French ambassador's office. He was educated at the University of Strasbourg , receiving a doctor of science degree in and doctor of medicine in , and ran a pharmacy in the city. In was appointed Professor of Chemistry at the University of Strasbourg, a post previously held by Louis Pasteur. One of his students was Victor Galippe , a physician who studied micro-organisms in plants and their role in human health.

This volume contains new editions of two books which have been available only sporadically in the decades since their publication. A Lost Chapter in the History of Biology which provides the main body of evidence. Virtually no claim in Ms Hume's book is undocumented - to have access to more material, one would need to be able to read French, and go to the original source material. The reader will soon discern that neither Mr Pearson nor Ms Hume could ever be called fans of Pasteur or his 'science'.
