This standard describes a routine procedure for the evaluation of results of the enumeration of microorganisms using colony-count methods with subsequent fold dilution steps and one plate or two parallel plates within each dilution step. This routine procedure is applied regularly in each laboratory performing colony counts. It provides criteria for the acceptability of differences between the results from parallel plates and subsequent dilution steps, as follows.
The results colony counts obtained from parallel plates are compared with tabulated limits for given colony counts. If these limits are exceeded, a technical problem when performing the parallel determinations may be indicated. The results sums of colony counts of two parallel plates of two subsequent fold dilution steps are compared with tabulated limits for given sums of colony counts. If these limits are exceeded, a technical problem when performing the dilutions may be indicated.
If the limits mentioned above are exceeded in more cases than expected, this indicates that the test procedure lacks reliability. SKU: Category: Standards. The microbiological analysis is complex especially because of the management and traceability of all the steps that the laboratory technician must perform before and during the sample analysis, of the data and the final results management which rapidly varies depending on the amount of microorganisms present. Very important therefore becomes the possibility of having a dynamic, intuitive and up-to-date system , such as Prolab. The Microbiology Module has been designed to provide the user with a multitude of possibilities covering all the cases specified by the standards and thus decreeing their compliance. The Microbiology Module consists of two parts: one called MQC Microbiological Quality Control and a second one regarding the management and the analytical data calculations. MQC is the part of the module dedicated to all the activities that the laboratory has to perform before sample analysis, such as air quality control, surface finishing, soil control, autoclaves, etc.
